painting my car

Hi, I am painting my old chevy from bear metal but just wanted some advice befor I start!

dose this sound ok

from bear metal ready prep por-15
then etch primer (light coat )
then 2 or 3 coats of primer 50/50 with thinners
wet sand
then cell gloss black 3 coats 50/50 with thinners
then wet sand
then 3 coats of cell gloss black 50/50/50 with clear and thinners and paint
then a wetsand and polish?

my thoughts are..

skip the metal ready

and not sure about the clear in the final coats , celly clear isnt great stuff and will prob cause more problems than good , i assume someone has told you it gives more depth /better looks ?

hi, Well I got the paint from jawel paints and yep thay said for a deep shine use the clear

remember that black shows any marks so prep must be good or it will show any marks in the light after you rubbed the primer back a couple of fog coats of black then rub it back till the fog coats gone with all the imperfections then paint it rub back till all marks are gone the clear coat

you don't say what you are painting it with i presume 2k or are we going old school with celly also they do the house of colour stuff as well as celly 2k etc etc

Hiya thanks for the advice I will take my time and get the prep perfect befor I think about painting, Im using cellulose as this will be my first time spaying a whole car and Iv been told its more forgiving.... hopfully it wont need to be lol!

what due you reckon on celly Steve i used to leave it a week or so after primer so as not to get the sink marks but long time since i did any paint work for anyone other than me

No rattle cans are acrylic not celly unless you are having some made up

ok I think I can get celly in a can from jawel Im just thinking a can will be easyer

yeah just mist on some some rattle can ..simoniz ones are celly in matt black , but it doenst really matter as youre only misting it on and will sand it all off

i dont like celly , 2 pack lasts much better , but then theres the health issues using it at home , plenty of classic owners still like it , will it be stored indoors mostly

Ideal I'll get some of that then, yeh its always in a garage coverd up Yeh I have been told that the 2pack will last a lot longer and not lose its shine but Im spraying at home in a garage so celly seems the safest.. After I have flat and polished it I can't put a car polish on for a few weeks can I?

you can polish and use glazes but dont wax or use a sealant for xx weeks
