I was wondering what is a good size compressor to paint the occasional trailer, run air tools etc, paint colunms and trusses for the occasional machinery/ hay shed etc. I paint like Donald Bradman, so all help is appreciated.

I know nothing about compressors but i assume its like anything else ,buy the best you can afford .

For paint, min 2hp and 50 litre, but the more the merrier esp for air tools which are hungry. As above really the most you can get for your cash. Can add more air reciever capacity later, so if its a toss up then go for more hp vs more tank really.

Most modern guns require a fair bit of.

best to match them, a big reciever will help to reduce the cfm requirement in the short term for spraying but will be fustrating when using air tools

HVLP guns require a lot of air, just get a conventional gun. Check stated gun air req's vs FAD cfm the comp of choice delivers. hp makes the real difference in delivered air, you can easily add more receiver but not add more hp short of linking comps.
