I've got the stage where I've blasted a good patch of cast iron castings, aluminium castings and smaller steel panels so need to get them painted before rust gets to them and while the weather is still above 15c in the frozen north.
My painting plan is this.
Degrease and tackrag. then with a 1.8 nozzle at 35-40 psi, 2:1 with 5 to 10% thinners (I bought the correct lechlar epoxy thinners)
Its a tractor so I'm not bothered about a bit of orange peel, not much you can do with synthetic anyway, I've got 5 litres of the empire blue top coat which will be more than enough and don't want to mess with 2 pack top coat.
Is it worth applying a synthetic primer between the epoxy and the top coat? I don't think so however its the first time I have used epoxy.
Thoughts?
Cheers
Andy

- Spray with a coat of Lechlar epoxy
- wait 30 mins
- Spray with another coat of lechlar epoxy
- Wait 90 minutes
- 1 coat synthetic top coat
- Wait about 90 minutes
- second coat of synthetic top coat
