Painting car wheels with Smooth Hammerite type paint

Will they be ok? Winchboy wants to paint his Land Rover wheels, powder coater wants £125! and I have a spare tim of Hammerite.

Hi, Hammerite products are for rusty metal in the garden not cars, too brittle.

Yes, it's a bit pants. See if you could get them painted in 2 pack epoxy.

If you want cheep, Halfords do a cheep wheel paint.

£125 isn't a bad price as they'd be sand blasting or dipping them first.

Toshing them over with a bit of paint is exactly what many a Land Rover owner would have done in the past.

In an ideal world you want the tryes off, sand blast and paint or powder coat. I prefer paint as they can be touched up and paint would have been used originally.

I know its just the pot of money is empty, he might be able to get them blasted in work, we have to fathom out which wheels are which as he has 4 on the car and a friend has donated 6 to the project

Done a few LRs in the past in Tractol paint. They did LR colours and they came out good.

If your lad intends to use it for any off-road stuff, I very much doubt if powder coating will stand up to it.

powder coating surface will break when you tighten the nuts, rendering it open to water ingress, i have a brand new tractor finishing mower which has been powdercoated, looks wonderfull but far too brittle ,chunks breaking off edges already and its only months old, painted it would have stood up , powder coat has its uses but not where any damage to the surfaces is liable to occur.
