Painting an old Powerfab excavator.

Make it look nice theres an extra 500 alone just dont paint the hoses as well. Seen a few machines with a total spray gun makeover, hoses, dirt, grease the lot painted!

I know what you mean, generally if their shiny everything's done, the hoses, any rams hanging out, the seat, any near by wildlife and the probably painter got a good dose!

The rams were pretty bad, I've sanded the back with 1500 and 2000 wet n dry, used citric acid to de rust them and the J B Welded the pits and scratches. Filed then wet n dry papered them smooth. It's what the farm equipment used to have done, they went on for 10-15 years like that.

Oh yes to that list of purchases add a new exhaust and carb rebuild, I'm off to hide the receipts from my wife.

By coincidence, I've been asked to get one of these old Powerfabs back into working order by one of my elderly relatives. Hasn't been used for at least 15 years but been sat under cover. Hopefully won't be too bad a job. I made the exhaust for it years ago (when cheap pattern replacements weren't available). Fabricated from a couple of bits of rectangular box. It's needed to do some repairs to the drive so assuming it all works, I doubt that I will have to worry about the paintwork. Think the biggest problem might be moving all of the other junk that's blocking it in (two dumpers, ride on mower, Drott) and all of which hasn't been started for a long while.

I've not primed it, as rustoleum indicates it's not necessary. But I wonder if it would be cheaper and quicker to prime it first.

It would be quicker and cheaper to just use Tractol

the dipper cylinder is like that on the wt, seems the chrome has worn through! but like you say a good sand down now and again and not a single leak, i used to give it a rub with chainsaw oil after use to stave off the rust. One of the spare parts i wanted from the wtd, which isnt happening

Good to hear another is still (sort of) going plenty of pattern parts now, even get a pattern engine! loncin make honda copys

I had the same model and put 2 double acting rams on the front legs with another diverter valve spliced into the lines...transformed the versatility of the machine
