Painting a wooden Land Rover?

series 1 /2 /2a had lights in grill till 1966

But only the early Series 1 had them behind the grille.

The headlamps are in the centre panel/grille not on the wings, you can see that on the second panel, but I have cut out the mesh in an inverted T so that they do not cover the headlamps.

What are you using for the lights back and front?

Thanks Octo, mine will look a bit like the first however its not a scale model just a toy so there will be many differences, it will be an imitation rather than an exact copy. Something like this

nah, two DC electric motors, I think they are stair lift motors or similar, I bought them from Toylander, I wanted to get this out the door quick rather than mess about reinventing the wheel before the kids get too old to use it. Some of my projects can take decades!

Many use mobility scooters as a donor vehicle and somebody has made an hydraulically powered one if you look on Youtube and there is some with engines in too however they are pretty much illegal to use apart from your back yard.

Well when they get too old for it you could always sell it on ebay..

Used Landrover,only done 12 miles,in fair conidition,bodywork needs some TLC,two careful owners.

Here's a bit of progress. Back "chassis" painted Wheels, brakes, steering on, front grill fitted trying bonnet on for fit and just adding lights and motors. The last image is a tad blurred, kids swinging on me legs

What size are those headlights?

Just had a quick measure with a bit of old steel rule I found on the barn floor, looks to be about 90mm diameter. The cut out they sit in the grill panel is 82mm diameter. They have a cluster of LEDs that pull-out from the back of the fitting. The lighting kit with front, rear and various switches, wire, fuses is 66 quid inc VAT, if you want just the head lamps then give Toylander a call.

I got it rolling today, still some ancillaries to put on but me on the kids took it on it maiden journey, and promptly crashed it, call it a christening. We were going down a hill when it started to get away from the brakes and the missus had stuck a wheel barrow full of compost in the middle of the driveway so I couldn't let it run, and seeing as I had the kids on board I stuffed it into the wall as we had a fair bit of hill to go and it was rapidly accelerating.

Not sure why the brakes suddenly failed, post mortem tomorrow. Not much damage, kids were giggling like mad however they won't be going on it 'till I'm confident the brakes don't fade. I may upgrade them to cycle discs rather than the rubber on the inside of the wheel rim that comes as standard, maybe use them just for the handbrake. I was overloading it a little, it is supposed to be 4 kids or one adult and one kid, but I'm not particularly heavy and neither are the kids.
