Paint strippers

Wondered if anyone had tried the paint strippers which SF & TS sell, and if they're any good? Paint Panther & Nemesis, I believe they're called. Just after something I can pick up locally to strip some gear of paint.

They do work, but they are not the best.

I found some decent paints strippers at a Car body paint supplier, about 20% more expensive. But it does work.

I got some of the paint panther stuff, it actually worked ok but needed leaving a while for it to work. I don’t have much to compare it to, I do remember nitromors from many years ago seeming to be a bit more vicious but I can’t say I’ve done much paint stripping in between.

I’ve not used the new stuff, last time I used nitromors was about 25 years ago to strip the paint off some rostyle wheels and I remeber it being pretty good, but I’ve heard the new stuff is not great.

Not great ? Its completley useless. Not worth the trouble of going to the shop to buy it. Go to a proper professional hardware/builders providers and buy the rustins paint stripper, not cheap, but works very well indeed.

I have been stripping the Drummond in Tool Station Degreaser https://www.toolstation.com/shop/p28838?searchstr=degr it works a treat, far better than any paint stripper I have tried since the original Nitromores disappeared.

That was after about half an hour on a warm afternoon.

I believe the proper stuff has dichloromethane in it.
Look for Starchem, available on the bay.

Depending oh how big the parts are can @MattF you build a caustic soda tank and do it that way?

I could whack them in the electrolysis vat, if necessary. Just wanted to see if I could strip the paint itself first. Even if they end up in the vat, some bits of paint cling on like grim death. I usually just leave those really stubborn bits be, and coat over them.

Spraygunsdirect have the real stuff and will ship to Ireland; very reasonably, considering the 'throw hands up in horror' attitude of most carriers.

Ive got a big tub of Nitromors.....which I was thinking of dumping because its crap.....then Ive been stripping these old church pews and its worked....I think its wax polish rather than varnish

I buy methylene chloride by the gallon off EvilBay, "for professional use only" to mix with vanilla paint stripper - it actually is Very Nasty Stuff, you name an organ in the human body, it's toxic to it... Even worse when you start dabbling with mixing it and other chemicals or welding nearby
