I'm about to start welding up my old Iveco Daily. Inner and outer sills, arches, battery tray. I've done a bit of welding before but not much and I've previously just put brushable seam sealer over everything and left it at that. But I'm wondering if that is the right thing to do or if there is a better way? Should I paint the sills before seam sealer? Or after? Or maybe there is some other way to protect the new steel that I don't know about? Will paint and seam sealer react together? What about the stone chip paints? And what about the cavity between the inner and outer sills? Should I paint them before welding as I won't be able to get to everything once its all welded up. Sorry for the dumb first question(s)! The only thing I have painted instead of using seam sealer was a frame I welded up for a flatbed truck. I used red oxide primer followed by a coat of rustoleum but even that may have been the wrong thing to do (although it still looks ok a year later).
Any tips would be great, never had anyone to show me this sort of stuff so not really sure what's what. Cheers.
