Paint repair

Just a little advice required please, I have almost completed restoration of my mk1 mini in almond green solid 2k gloss paint, I have had a small accident on rear quarter and put a small scratch in the panel. It's to deep to polish and isn't massively noticeable so will leave it for now until car on the road. Question I have is I know with clear over base a repair can be blended then panel clear coated, what is the method on solid paint is it blendable or do you have to have exact match and paint whole panel, I was hoping maybe blend solid paint and use blending thinner on all dry edges as I have tried sanding and polishing small repairs before but I ended up painting complete panel as no matter how I tried when removing dry paint it always left the repair visible as I had to sand and polish off most of blend area to get it shiny and smooth.

you can use the solid paint and thinners the edge , although then you risk the chance of the edge picking up and showing , especialy if the colour match itsnt prefect

what alot of folk do is colour up the repair with the solid paint then use some 2k around the edge and then thinners that away into the panel, makes for a better job and you can get away with non perfect matches

thanks, when you say 2K around the edge do you mean clear or the solid paint thinned down with 2k thinners further.

sorry it should have said 2k clear

colour over the repair with your solid paint , then go over that but a bit further out with 2k clear and then blending thinners the edges , or on some repairs it might be just as well to clear the whole panel

it does take a bit of practise to be good at it , another thing let the repair sit for as long as you can before trying to polish it
