Hi All, some eight years ago I made about 14 metres of railings for the front of our house. They were hot dipped galvanised and then spray painted with Rourkes Vinylast black paint (meant for going straight onto new galvanise). This coating has lasted very well but it is now time to repaint (the black has gone very matt grey and in a few places the galvanise is showing through).
I don't want to spray this time as there are many garden plants behind the railings and in some cases coming through them. I don't want to dismantle them either because that will be a pain. As such, I want to brush paint them in a matt or satin black or may be very very dark green (like the Georgian used to use for railings).
I have just spent several hours wiping them all down and the substrate looks ideal for painting onto. Due to the fiddlyness I would prefer to only apply one coat if possible (only for aesthetic purposes as galvanise will protect from corrosion).
What is a good paint to do this with? I have found Hammerite very messy in the past.
