Padlock protector

In the process of upping workshop security after an unwelcome visitor asking for scrap. This morning I made a padlock shield for one of my padlocks using 60 x 10mm flat leftover from a strap hinge job I've been doing. The hole on the left is for me to hang the padlock on when I'm in the workshop. I'm going to beef up the washers on the back of the door too in an attempt to make it more difficult for crowbar to rip it off the door face.

Please dont take offence but to me that would be easier to remove than a simple hasp, I wouldn't attack the padlock. The back of the door needs serious reinforcement, not a few washers, to make that worthwhile.

Given enough strength behind and less access to the padlock at the side ( as mentioned above ) it will be better.

Yes I think so, at the end of the day the scum don't care what damage they do so making it so they cant hit / chisel / pry the lock is helpful.

Its a shame we have to go to such lengths but we do. Given enough strength behind it will seriously slow them down. If there is a shed alarm take the anti tamper circuit through the wood, then through a small hole inside the reinforcement and back through the wood so that as soon as they start to rip it apart it will alarm.

Ideally you want to just be able to get your hand in to unlock and nothing else.
Looking at that at the moment could (a criminal) get a length of scaffolding into that u shape to use as big leaver to leaver the gap open?

Hi, Two observations, 1) cover the gap between the two halves so they cant get anything in to cut the padlock. 2) Lower the bottom of the brackets so they can't get a crowbar under and onto the padlock and lever it down.

The top needs to slope at a considerable angle. The way that you have it horizontal is just asking for a wack with a heavy sledge hammer. If sloping the blow will glance off

When I was looking at van locks, there was a video of 1 being attacked and they had designed it with shamfered edges to reduce the impact of hammer blows. Maybe angle the top.

They will just beat it down with a big hammer and splinter the wooden door if they really want to get in. Fit another 4 locks and cover the hinge side join as well and put a solid bar right across all the lot to deter them some more.

don't go ott and get paranoid a half inch hole drilled in wood near the lock and an 18volt jigsaw will soon bypass that if they really wanted to be in yours will stop the average scrote breaking in wanting to buy a bag of smack

NO NO NO dont buy,i had one on the back of my van few years back,the keys are made of tin,plus,theres not many different ones,ie,one key can fit all,as i found out
My recommendation of padlock for a setup like that would be a shackle lock for eg

Thanks for all the ideas. Unless I turn the place into a fortress I'll never have done enough. Slowing them down till the farmer's dog starts barking is one of my objectives for now.

When doing anything like this its always worth thinking if i had to destroy this with minimal noise or tools how would i go about it.

as for unwelcome visitors asking for scrap, anyone unfamiliar gets the reg number chalked on the wall while they are there they soon get the message.

Only way to stop or restrict that is to put steel bar on back, then thro bolt eyes and a bar over the front. If you get my drift, but battery angle grinders or sthil saws sort that in seconds.

As I have said before for locking security, Im fully in favour of internal locking bars etc, With just a chubb mortice lock inside locking the mechanism and just a keyhole in the door,
