Paddle mixer for plaster

I have a small plastering job to do at my son's house next week and and I can't find my old mixing paddle for my drill. Having Googled for a new one, I've discovered that you can buy a mains powered paddle mixer for anything from £30 up to £300.

Most of the cheap and cheerful ones are around £50 - does anyone have any experience with these? To be honest £50 is probably overkill for the few times in a decade that I would ever need one, but it might be better than trashing my drill.

I have one of these, used it for lots of floor tile adhesive and plaster. Mixed a whole bag in one of those big garden buckets in about two minutes. Definitely one of my better purchases :-)

For the little I've done a paddle in the sds chuck does the job
Been mixing tile adhesive and drywall like it for years

I have the Lidl parkside one it has done my whole hose now more bags than I care to remember, it has been abbused a bit mixing render too, wouldnt be without it

edit: or even just make a paddle for your drill

Used one of these for years in an old mains drill, keep it in low gear and its fine.

I also have the Bauker Toolstation one. Used it for plaster and cement.. highly recommended. Can't speak for longevity though as I've only had it a year or so. It owes me nothing if it packs up tomorrow!

If you already have a sds drill with a chuck and the option to use it as a rotary only then you can use that instead, has the torque required and suitable speed control. What I use, anyway.

the higher wattage drill you have the better if your not mixing day in day out. a half decent one will do

He also stated it's going to be used very infrequently so the likelihood of trashing a decent drill is low

Compared to drywall adhesive and tile adhesive plasters not stressful on a drill. Mine regularly gets used for both the formers.

yeah but hes an infrequant user compared to some of us that dont over mix plaster therefore dont stress out a drill

but it can still give a lower end drill some stick

As he stated he can't find his old drill paddle il assume he's had some practice using it

Il stand by my post. Unless your skimming regularly save the money and put it towards a new drill if it does eventually give out

I use a draper mixer its noisy due to the fan but its a grunter will carry a big paddle and mix 2bags of gear no trouble

If it's a small job, it's unlikely he'd do any damage to his drill, having used a paddle previously and the drill survived that exercise. New paddle'd be my recommendation too.

Thanks folks, for all the replies (and offers of equipment loans). I'm probably going to go for the cheapo Toolstation mixer. We've got a fair amount of floor tiling to do as well and I realised I can use it to mix the tile adhesive too.

Just bought the Aldi Ferrex one. It's alright.
