Package bins for deliveries?

Now I've put the external door on the porch, if your not outside in 30 milliseconds from the knock on the door, the packages are either back in the van or outside in the rain. So, I intend to put some kind of decent sized receptacle by the back door. I don't need a lock where I live, just a relatively weatherproof, rust proof box that doesn't cost the earth and can take a decent sized pacakge.

I'm not interested in a shopping assistant, I've already searched on line and there's loads of options, dedicated delivery boxes, galv feed bins, galv horse blanket boxes, plastic grit boxes etc. etc. ranging from about 100 quid to over 300.

I'm also not interested in moans about "they won't use it anyway etc." that can go in the "what bugs me" thread

What I am interested in is a home made or adapted options that may reuse or repurpose stuff that can be had for not a lot. An IBC may be a trifle big but you get the idea, it has to be relatively easy on the eye, but function over form is fine, I can always disguise it.

Any ideas?

so far it has lasted about 18 months

I made my one from timber fixed it to the wall and floor. The rear is the wall

I made a steel box on a pedestal,they wanted it to be unobtrusive as they’re in the national park ,it also had to be wind resistant as in not blow over,so ridiculously heavy,about 700 tall,he assures me although it blends in with a stone cottage,it does get used,weatherproof lid that only opens 80degrees,so it can’t remain open.

ive also used the recording when they say they have delivered and proven that they havent

I bought a lightweight plastic lidded box advertised for storing patio cushions etc.
From Lidl's Magical Middle Aisle of Mystery for under £30.
1200 long x 450 wide x 550 deep
Leave some bricks/brake discs or other ballast inside so it doesn't blow away!

A quick Google shows many sources - most seem sturdier but dearer.

I bought the largest Ketler one from there for actual patio storage - it's large enough for a modestly sized corpse.

I left the porch door unlocked . . . which worked for a few years . . . now I have a laminated card on the step (can't be read from the road) saying please leave inside the porch . . .

I made one for a guy. Just basically copied a book return bin at the local library.

It’s a metal box with a lift up lid, which has a false floor inside that falls when you lower the lid.

Didn’t take any photos as it was adapted from a galvanised tank and I just did the monkey work. He was going to paint it etc.

Should be easy enough to Google / find on YouTube…..

If I go into town at some point I’ll take a phot of that. Theirs is a bit different in that it’s got a lift up tray. I chose the flap idea as it defaults shut so if the carrier is a bit thick they can understand how to operate it

Here I don’t lock anything so they just put parcels on the workbench.

Prior to it going I had a dead pickup which worked well for oversize mail. Might be a bit big for your application though.

My FIL has a large wooden box with padlock and clasp hanging there with a note that reads, please place parcel in box and lock it with the padlock, been doing that for years.

Wilko had them cheaper in shop but not online so worth a look if you have a local shop.

Having seen a few pictures youve posted of your place I think I would want something half decent looking, Id be tempted to make something out of shiplap/featheredge and a decent roof? those big plastic bins or tin boxes are not pretty things

Actually the stone idea isn't bad, could make a seat for it for putting your boots on in summer.

Thats a good idea, dual purpose, and wouldn't look like a box for parcels.

to be honest brew id use the old fashioned middin reference we had in yorkshire

was good enough for bins certainly good enough for storing of deliverys
