oxy/propane cutting

Hi everyone I hope I am putting this in the right section if not will one of the moderators please advise and move to where it should be thanks my question is can I use pub gas co2 on a oxy/propane cutting set up if so what fittings will I need to change my reason for asking is I will need to use some intense heat to change the king pins on my old dodge 50 series S46 recovery truck thanks in advance for answers that I hope to get. CO2 puts fires out, you need oxygen and a fuel gas to create the kind of heat you need. What were you hoping to achieve with the CO2 ?

As Perdo says, the cutting process works by heating the steel to white heat and providing an excess of oxygen so the steel literally burns away. Mixing CO2 with acetylene most likely won't even light!

Please forgive my ignorance I thouht CO2 was oxygen derrrrrrrr!!!!!!!

Oxygen is O2 (without the C). CO2 wouldn't work at all for that.

Well now I know what's what is oxygen available from anyone without the massive rentals or perhaps another way of generating the kind of heat I will need

A lot of the smaller gas suppliers do oxygen. We've been looking at them for MIG shielding gas but it might be worth asking them about oxygen. There's a list on http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=9334

What were you hoping to achieve with the CO2 ?

Probably the safest oxy/fuel setup in the world!

Sorry Chris, shouldn't laugh but now you've realised your mistake I'll bet you're having a chuckle too!
Not sure about non-rental oxygen, most non-rental suppliers just tend to stock shielding gases but you may get lucky and find one, if you do could you let us know as I'm sure there's others who would be interested.

I have found one the same as supplies my argon mix that is adams gas
