Hi all, im usually a mig & tig man but i do occasionally braze things, I bought one of those bernzomatic sets but it was a pile of junk so i decided to go the hole hog bought a full cutting welding torch set , decent size oxygen bottle and opted to use the disposable Methylacetylene & Propadiene (mapp) cylinders for fuel as its a good bit safer and not alot colder
Its been a good few years since i was at college using this stuff so i wanted to brush up on a few things ideally from the grey hairs with lots of experience
First question Oxygen
I've seen a few horror stories about bottles exploding don't really fancy experiencing it, Aside from using a flash guard , check valve and making sure there are no contaminants like oil & debri, and obviously keeping the cylinder secure is there any other Dangers i need to be aware of?
Second Question Methylacetylene & Propadiene (mapp)
I assumed i could just use an Acetylene regulator so i bought one and made up an adapter so it would fit the disposable mapp bottle I would asume i must still use check valve and flash guard and i'v also read i need to use a different hose as the Acetylene hose may perish are there any other points i need to be aware of or any other problems with this setup?
Sorry one more
In the event of a fire in the oxygen regulator what is the best course of action as running away as fast as you possible can would seem like the best??
I will not be using this for welding , it will be for brazing and heating only if i need to cut or weld i'lue the tig or plasma
