I bought a torch from B&Q that attaches to butane or MAPP gas cylinders. The MAPP gas gets really hot and I've used it to free off quite a few few 3/4 nuts. It'll get them cherry red and you'r able to wind them off with a spanner or sicket.
It won't do what you can do with oxy propane or oxy acetylene twin bottle set-ups were you can use the excess lever air to blow away metal.
The MAPP gas isn't cheap around a tenner a cylinder but it'll do all but the most stubborn nuts. You can't beat the proper oxy propane or oxy acetlyene though.
