I had a blast today with some 5mm 6013's, well it works.

What's the box on the side of this one? some kind of power factor correction?

From what little I've been able to glean, it did pretty much amount to a box of caps. Would love to see inside one though, just out of curiosity. Not much info on the net about those boxes.

I do know u could buy them with the caps for easier strike up. a mate bought one -cant see the point myself as there easy to strike anyhow

Given up on rescuing the 300 amp oil cooled, I posted above. Way to heavy to be faffing about with .

I reckon your right about power factor correction, caps on the input to counteract the inductive load. Long time ago that I did electrical principles, but from memory you use a capacitive load to balance an inductive load. No doubt someone that does industrial power will be along in a minute to correct me.

Used to have a cracking AC DC set in a shop I worked at an oil cooled thing never seen one again did copper and ali rods with it as well as a stack of lo hy and such
