Oxford MIG - gasless factory option

Hello folks,

I understand that the standard migmaker 180 can only be used with gas (there is only one -ve return dinse terminal through the front fascia). I know from the Oxford literature that there is a factory option to have a +ve for gasless. I have seen several fleabay items that have this.

My question surrounds whether this is a factory only option, or whether it is possible to make this conversion aftermarket?

Whilst I would plan to use gas, it does give me the option to keep a roll of flux-cored in a sealed box somewhere just in case I run out of gas - not that there is anything I'd be doing that wouldn't wait in reality!

yes it will be possible to do it after taking delivery but you probably wouldn't want to do it whilst the warranty was in force

Thanks MoreWellie - it would most likely be second hand that I was buying. I suppose there's always second hand that is still under warranty. Worth considering before butchering something that is still under warranty :-)

you'll just need to swap the polarity. The factory version will have tails and terminal posts to reverse the polarity. The non reversible is probably hard wired. You will need to replicate the two terminals and flyleads to the return connector and the torch connector.

Cheers rikrobson, that's as I thought. I had an old SIP that had a fly lead out the front and two screw terminals to accommodate gas/gasless and I remember how simply that was wired inside.
