After the revelation of buying a good helmet and now able to see what I'm doing, I've decided to treat myself to a decent MIG.
Longer term I plan to save up for an inverter TIG, so I'm leaning towards a TecArc/PortaMig/Oxford lump for the MIG as I suspect it might be more reliable with the infrequent use and living in an unheated workshop - not sure if that is justified but that seems to be the feedback on here.
After much debate I'm almost settled on the Oxford range, and either the 240-1 or the 270-1 is looking favourite.
However, my workshop is on two levels with a couple of steps which means wheeling it about is going to be a nightmare, especially with the bottle on.
Another option I've looked at is the S-MIG as I could stash the power unit out the way and just take the wire feed, with a 10m interconnect it would reach almost everywhere I might need to go. It is more expensive, looks bulkier with more to go wrong and I'm sure the extra cables are going to be a pain, but it might save a lot of lifting.
Any feedback on these, or other options I should look at?
Also, Is the 4x4 roll feed really worth the extra?
