Although it's almost certainly leak free for future reference I'll say again that diesel is the better choice. It'll seep through any gap whereas water could take a very long (or infinate) time to, it really is the bees knees for leak testing. The trick can be to look at the other side quickly enough to tell where the leak starts from before the whole area becomes wet!
Plus it's often an advantage not to have to completely dry the item as you often need to when water has been in.
