I've got a Shoei XR1000 helmet which is less than a year old and has done less than 1000 miles - it's basically in new condition. I've always liked the simplicity of Marco Simoncelli's helmet design - two wide red stripes front to back on a white background - and with his tragic death at Sepang I'm seriously toying with the idea of overpainting the design on my helmet (which is a plain silver colour). It won't be an exact copy, but should look good and would be something of a tribute to a racer I had great hopes for.
How would be the best way to go about this? Would rattle can(s) be good enough? And would the paint be likely to adversely react with the shell material?
I was thinking of just masking off the area to be kept free of paint (i.e. everything except the two broad lines) and then just spraying the damn thing.
Or should I be looking at doing a 'proper job' with a spraygun and compressor?
