Well, having too much time on my hands has got me thinking of lathes...yet again. I love my wee ML7 and have lived with its limitations: size and depth of cut but have always hankered after a larger lathe.
I realise I will never get a car in my garage and my lathe is the most used tool in there so with some tidying and rearranging I recon I could live with a lathe 2 feet wider and a few feet longer than my ML7 cabinet: so up to about 900mm wide by 1200 or so long.
Motorbikes can live in my 20 x 10 shed.
Realistically it will be March before I start looking ( hope to be over chemo and out the wheelchair by then).
I will wait for the right lathe: my experience was learning at college on a Colchester student, then spoiled at work where I could use a Hardinge HLV, so a slight contrast to my ML7.
It will be used mainly for motorcycle parts, would be nice to be able to skim brake shoes though I suppose I want a good quality lathe that fits in my space envelope and has good capability. I am budgeting £2.5k max. would appreciate suggestions on what I could get that is not too big but will be a significant upgrade on the wee Myford.
Thanks
