If you've got room for a 300 go for that lots of plus points - the screwcutting gearbox on them is fantastic. Steer clear of ones that have just had a tart up to make them look re-built.

Can someone give me an idea of the essential accessories for a m300?
Obviously 3 jaw, 4 jaw and a qc toolpost are good.
Do they usually come with faceplates?
I would mainly be making imperial threads - do they need a selection of change gears?
Most advertised seem to have very little with them.

From memory the 250 doesnt have as many screw cutting and gear options as the 300.

I have a Feeler turret lathe which is a Hardinge clone. Took me 8 hours to get it into a van - NEVER again without a forklift!
The Harrison M250 is easily shipped on a pallet with a tail lift. We can ship it for you and it can be wheeled almost where you need it to go on a pallet truck.

You'll be want 3 and 4 jaw chucks, tailstock Chuck and live centre and a QC toolpost with toolholders

I would stretch to around £4k for a good machine provided delivery is not too much on top of that, £4.5k absolute max as that will require forgiveness from the wife
The m300 is around 600kg so not too bad providing it is palletised to my standard.
There is always a risk with pallet shipping of course but goods are insured for what you paid for it.
I do it all the time. My huge vintage drill was too tall for my van so I put it on a big pallet through bolted and shipped no problem.
Touch wood I haven't had a problem in 11 years but it does happen.

The one on lathes.co.uk does look almost too clean, new control cabinet nicely done.
I used to get access to an HLV at work, nicest lathe I have used, particularly for thread cutting.
