Outline Fonts

Is there a way to convert the standard issue fonts into outline fonts?

There is as few outline jobbies already, but could do with Times, or something very similar.

Only way i can think of is in good old paint, and just do it by hand. There must be an easier way?

Adobe Illustrator, Freehand and InDesign (all graphic art apps) can do it easily but they're pricey. Do you want a white inner with a black line, or do you want the font outlines for waterjet cutting, vinyl signs etc?

There's also Dafont.com, which probably has outline fonts. Great site, most of the fonts are free.

Yes, just want them as outlines for cutting.
White outer and inner with a black outline.

dont know what program you want the fonts for but just search in google on adding fonts to whatever program you are using then search out a font you require and add it

If you use the free graphics program GIMP, I'm pretty sure there is a 'convert text to path' dropdown option that you can use.

Do you need the entire font in a particular format or are you happy to do it on a case-by-case basis?

Id doesnt matter tbh, even jpg will be alright

microsoft publisher should do it if you have the program

Can be done quite easily on corel paint shop pro. If you don't need the program for anything else just download the 30 day trail and save yourself the 50quid...

The open source free software to rival adobe illustrator which is the professional weapon of choice for this process is Inkscape http://inkscape.org/

Select the Text tool and type the words then select Stroke paint on the right and select the colour black then Fill and select no colour. Done

Gimp is the open source rival to Adobe Photoshop, and Scribus to Adobe Indesign. These are very powerful packages, for most things they are as good as the commercial products.

I've been using them on and off for a while now. A few designers I know swear by them and have moved over to them completely.

I use Open Office and and Thunderbird and have ditched Microsoft bloatware. I''m toying with the idea of building a Ubuntu open source system just to see if its a viable, supportable business solution.

Most graphic programs will do what you need. This is in Gimp;
