Out for a quick Puff

Did a wee trip round Loch Crinan on the VIC32 today with the Granddaughter and family, was really interesting to be out in a 1943 steam puffer:

Another oldie getting restored at Crinan boatyard " Auld Reekie":

Still with its original engine from 1943:

Engine room too cramped to get a decent photo, hot too next to the boiler.

Steam winch with 3 powered sections: anchor chain, crane and rope puller.

Loved the steering gear, no damping, so you feel every wave hitting the rudder through the geared chain drive:

Then a coffee in the coffee shop:

Their cakes were good too!

I was lucky enough to get a quick engine room visit on this 1911 steamer couple of weeks ago, made in Norway, served on convoys to Russia in BOTH world wars

Attacked many times from sea and air, but survived ( unlike most..)

I just walked on board and they were ok with it. Oil burner now, converted from coal.
Hestmangen i think is her name.
Norwegian spelling defeats me sorry..

Aye, I was chatting to the stroker, sorry engineer, he was telling me they had to cut the wheelhouse off to change the boiler as he was applying oil to the conrods with a paintbrush.

Yes it does, designed to resupply the RN fleet in home waters. good crafts.

I did a week on her in 2010. I will not be asked to cook again.
