Oscilloscope?

I haven't tried one, but I've been looking around at these single channel portable scopes rebranded under several names - model number DSO1511G.
Available from the usual sources, and go for about £55 on Ali.

There are a couple of teardown and review videos on youtube.

Most of these sort of things, and the cheap entry level PC scopes seem to be quite rubbish - however this one is apparently good for about 90Mhz (Not quite the 120 they advertise, but way ahead of anything else in that class).
Functions quite well as a portable hand held scope, but also has a display output so you can hook it up to a PC monitor, I think you can do screenshots as well.

Obviously no substitute for a proper scope, but not much chance getting anything decent for that sort of cash.

going by the cuppa bottom left, you are working on an infinate improbibility drive ?

Ironically the scope had nothing to do with that test (just checking a stay for the Defender was behaving properly).

It's a downgrade in some respects from what I used to use - anything up to 6GHz of analogue bandwidth, but then I don't have a large multinational defence company budget anymore. The slightly scary aspect was for using it properly the "disposable" scope probes (to be soldered onto the circuit board) for the 6GHz scope meant that you didn't use many to match the cost of the Keysight scope I have currently. I think they were of the order of £400 a pop

That hantek looks good, but for the amount I use it I guess I am sticking with this old whatever it is.
I was given it by someone on here, it's got a bit flaky since, but you would be if you had been sleeping
in my cold damp garage.

Rigol DS1054 here. 4 Channel 50MHz

These could be hacked to 100mhz, by inputting a code to enable the option. I’m not sure if it’s still possible

I bought a picoscope back around 2000; had lots of problems with it. The after sales from them was poor then and is the same now. Avoid!!!

Looking at the scopes available and the prices, it's hard to argue the case for avoiding Chinese stuff. Hantek kit.

Can you get Hantek stuff from a UK dealer who will support it during the warranty? Budget gear from China can be a bit variable; one item comes down the production line and it's perfect and will make the owner very happy, but the next one might be not quite so perfect (possibly different factories)? I have an Ayoue temp controlled soldering iron; been completely happy with it for over 10 years but a friend bought one and it was terrible.

Against my better principles and protestations I've ordered a Hantek 4 channel set. What swung it was having it on my eBay watch list when the offer popped up, and it was hard to argue against it being worth a punt for less than £170 inc postage.

Yeah, which is why I wanted this type (picoscope etc) as the images are straight onto the PC or laptop.

1Gsps is probably theoretical and a Chinese spec. If its close to genuine it will be used for oversampling

70MHz of bandwidth will be the analogue front-end.

I used one of those at uni, very nice bit of kit. That and the Rohde & Schwarz are the reason I don't currently have an oscilloscope, because I can't bring myself to buy one that doesn't have FFT and packet decoding, features I'll almost certainly never use.

Philips PM93 Scopemeter; Gould something-or-other, Tektronix 212.
Rarely use any of them - the batteries are shot in the Philips and Tek.

My friend bought me this for my birthday. It cost £100+vat and goes up to 40MHz with good resolution, way better than the cheapo multimeter oscilloscopes, should be plenty good enough for auto use, ham use etc.

This brand Multicomp seems to be making very high quality kit for low cost, I also bought their lab power supply, really nice kit.

What am I using? Pico laptop based (two channel only) - plus several semi fast (ish) simple single channel graphing multimeters!

Even as a full time auto electrician - I don't actually use a scope that often. Mostly - we are graphing out using live data thru DL16 diagnostics. The scope only really comes out - if I don't "trust what I am seeing thru live data" - then the testing at source starts.

Dredging up an old thread rather start anew.

I’m about to go for the pico 2 channel laptop based after watching gaztube reviews and tutorials it should do what I need.

Has anything changed in the last year or so? It’s still a good scope to get?

I have nothing but good things to say about the Hantek set up I got (in spite of my misgivings) as recommended by some on here. Take a glance at the price here for a four channel compared to the two channel Pico and it's easy to see what swayed it for me.
