I got the Optrel Isofit headgear today and have tried it on and adjusted things and it seems nice and comfortable and a very snug fit. Only some real life use will however tell me whether it is great or just ok so that will have to wait.
The headgear is capable of being retro fitted to any Optrel and here it is on one of my Crystals.
I will likely put the black knobs on rather than the green although if I like ithe head gear I will probably get one for my other Crystal so having one with green and one with black would be a good idea as I tend to use one for Tig and the other for Mig, reason being is Mig welding Alu knackeres the lens covers much quicker than Tig so if I keep one for Tig I don't have to swap the lens covers on it as often as I would if I used it for both.
Anyway I digress.
The headgear easily unclips from the helmet by pulling the clips apart as seen below. This makes changing or even cleaning inner lenses very easy and much easier than it would be with the head gear in the way, even the old style.
The clips
The two separated.
The adjustability is excellent.
You have adjustment of the distance of the shell to the headgear so if you wear specs you can slide it further away, that is standard though so nothing special about that on the IsoFit.
There is height adjustment of the back and front sections though.
Back
Front
The sides also get adjusted when you tension the headgear.
The inside is padded and very comfortable.
The padded bit can be released quite easily from the outer shell which will allow it to be washed quite easily.
To tension the head gear you turn the knob at the back as you would on a conventional one but this pulls front, back and sides all in and has a self aligning effect to it so the fit is very good.
To release all it requires is a single click the opposite way and the tension is fully released.
You can have the tension that tight that it will be almost impossible to pull off but it still is comfortable even that tight and to take off just a single click the opposite way slackens it fully as mentioned above.
Alternatively you could have it a bit slacker and it still fits more snugly than a conventional head gear but you could still remove it without slackening, I will test both ways and see which I prefer.
Anyway I am delighted with it so far but a days welding will be the real test.
