Might keep it for a bit longer then , what size nozzle and filler should I be using on 3mm aluminium

2.4 tungsten 120amps 2mm filler.
Looks like your getting on just fine. The first pic shows your Alu looking very scabby and dirty. Clean that all off before welding or you'll make a mess of it. Well done

Thanks Richard I've been doing it on about 80 amps but I'm using a 3 phase machine would that make a difference or should I get it turned up to over 100

Well the thing is I would be starting off at 120 and as the heat builds up and the puddle becomes more fluent I might be down to 80 or less when getting towards the end. Variable current control with a pedal makes life easier. Also the size of your parts makes a difference too. Alu sucks heat up like a sponge and spreads it throughout quick. If the part is small it becomes heat soaked so quickly you often find the amount of current actually needed to weld it is a lot less than on a part 5 X its size. This is where steel and stainless behave very different.

Yeah this thread is me wondering wether to sell my TIG and get an inverter style welder, but still unsure wether I'm going to get much advantage from pulling an extra £500 to get one

What colour tungsten would you recommend ?

It's not a big factor and while learning you won't see much benefit from using one to another. Anything but thoriated (red) will be fine for what your doing with aluminium.
