@malcolm I'd try and do something at home rather than run the risk of starting something up that might get shut down due to the virus outbreak getting worse, I am just keeping busy at home with a back log of small jobs i can start stop until things start to get back to how they were.

"we need to do the right things for the right reasons and ultimately the actions we take now will determine how many people die during this crisis".

You might not be at risk, but you might inadvertantly spread it to someone who is, directly or indirectly.

The reason the "lockdown" is so lenient is because they are counting on everyone to do the right thing, if we don't then it will undoubtedly get much tougher.

I am keeping to only essential travel and even then avoiding as many people i can, If i go shopping i phone the older neighbours and other high risk people and ask if they need anything then drop it in a bag at their front door without seeing them in person, the good thing about being OCD is i have 2 gallons of disinfectant knocking about and i have been making up spray bottles to clean down with and using non scented baby wipes then adding a cap full of dettol to give to high risk people.

I think this work will be postponed, but something will probably still happen before the end of this year and I will make plans that will work with the guidance at the time when it starts to settle down and become more detailed and coherant. The process of thinking about it was very useful as I thank those who posted constructive advice either for or against.

For those who just went for name calling you should be ashamed of yourselves - we should be encouraging people to discuss plans. Otherwise people will soon figure out it's bad to ask for advice on the topic and will take a best guess and do their own thing anyway. Just think how many lives will be lost due to your action!

I am taking the precautions mentioned in post #6 which while aimed at creating a safe working space are also handy generally.

It is still necessary to go to the shops to buy food. Today I washed hands before going out and after coming back. That's something I didn't do last week.

There is nobody else here so surfaces aren't an issue right now, but if people can agree to touch different surfaces then the risk of spread will surely be reduced. Arranging ownership of spaces and surfaces in work places might be a good way towards that - you don't want people touching the same stuff.

Reminds me of an illustration I once heard. If someone gave you a glass of water and put a drop of poison in it, would you try to drink around it or avoid the glass all together?

By trying to keep your project going you’re drinking around the poison, not avoiding it. Everything you do other than shut down is encouraging people to travel, work, get fuel etc....its about trying to beat a pandemic as a national team, not weedle our way through boris’s legislation to achieve our own endeavours. all the best

See second paragraph above @max0. Probably another death there so thanks for the comment.

Currently the advice in England is to continue working even in non essential jobs. Where working from home is possible that's what you should do. It's happened quickly and they are likely to find a balance that controls numbers of cases in a few weeks so responsible thing seems to be wait and then work to the guidelines.

The government actions are based on a study by Imperial College "Impact of non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) to reduce COVID-19 mortality and healthcare demand" which suggests we will probably need to be in some sort of lockdown for 18 months. Over time the situation and the guidelines will change and I think we should follow those guidelines but also think for ourselves.

Unfortunately I don't agree with the advice. I feel it's being made for financial reasons rather than to help the rate of infection.
