Opening Site Up Again - Precautions

Planning to start the house project up again. From the guidelines tonight it still seems allowable to do that but I want to be responsible.

Can't see more than one or two people being involved and started drafting a letter with rules to keep everyone safe. Can anyone think of anything I should add or change?

The following coronavirus precautions are being taken on the project which exceed the Government advice as of 24th March 2020:

· Only one contractor will be allowed on site at any time. The project manager will remain on site at all times. There are no other occupants on site.

· Contractors agree to stay away from the site should they feel unwell for any reason or should they have been in recent contact with anyone who has started to feel unwell or has contracted the virus. They will notify the project manager of this at their earliest opportunity.

· 2m distancing will be observed at all times on site.

· Inside the site no 2 persons will work in the same room on the same day.

· Outside the site in open air it may be necessary for two people to work together. In this case 2m distancing will be maintained.

· Should any contractor develop symptoms that could be attributed to the virus the site will close to other contractors until such time as current guidelines deem it safe to re-open.

Good point. Got lots of toilets so contractors can use the gents. (Project manager will continue to use the Ladies :-)

Shouldn't be a lot of shared surfaces. Got worried about the coffee pot going to work on Monday. Maybe get everyone their own pot and have their initials on it, get them to make it themselves. Milk and kettle are likely to be shared - I've been struggling to find milk - so I'll maybe keep them clean and wipeoff other surfaces between contractors.

Had a delivery today and the drivers are getting pretty good. I asked the driver to sign for it himself. He said he had to do that anyway.

I really wouldn't, I doubt it will be long before they are ordered to shut down. Plenty of big sites shut today and if they try adding exceptions it just gets messy

For the contractor I have in mind her mental health is a way bigger consideration than the risk of two people with no other social contact at all passing the virus to eachother. For other work we will both have to wait not only until restrictions end but until people have enough spare money again. So long as the government guidelines allow I will open site, restrict contractors to one at a time, and I want it to be responsible and make it as safe as possible.

· Should any contractor develop symptoms that could be attributed to the virus the site will close to other contractors until such time as current guidelines deem it safe to re-open.

· To avoid contamination after hand washing Contractors will use the Gents toilets. The project manager will use the Ladies.

· Contractors should wash their own cup and prepare their own brew at break time. Separate tea or coffee supplies will be provided for each contractor on request. Contractors can provide their own milk if they wish and a fridge will be provided. The kettle will be wiped down each day and contractors are welcome to bring their own kettle.

· Everyone on site will also maintain 2m distancing from external contacts on site such as delivery drivers. Should a signature be necessary the delivery driver should be asked to sign on your behalf.

All very well and good Malcolm, but by the time your man has started to feel unwell, he’s had a week of touching all sorts, then touched by your other contractors and so on. I don’t really understand what’s so hard about following a simple instruction nowadays?

Which instruction is that? If I completely follow and exceed Government guidelines where is the problem? Currently I understand people can still go to work should they will be able to do the work from home even when the work is non-essential. It is unlikely they will strip my wallpaper from home. If I have got that wrong please let me know.

My tack right now is follow and exceed government guidelines. Try to understand the guidelines and try to keep everyone safe.

You got it in one, non essential. I fail to believe that it’s more important to get your building work done than to just not risk contamination more than necessary. If it’s social interaction you need, move her in with you for the short term and keep each other company.
It sounds callous, but there it is.

All my customers have been fine
Cus1 6 doors laid in the middle of there kitchen. Happy to pay for what's been done already and sort the rest when we can so probably July

Kitchen. Due to be delivered tomorrow. Moved it to next Monday last Monday as I had suspicions how it was going. Now cancelled indefinitely.
Customer 3 wants me to order the staircase regardless and pay for it. Store it until this blows over (not gonna argue but can't see it being done till July earliest once again )

Ive two guys working here on my barns right now. We had a similar discussion this morning. On working outside, doing stone work. The other inside, plastering. I cant see a problem, as neither job can be done from home, both travel in their own motors. Builders merchant is closed so job will grind to a halt as there is only 1 bag of plaster left, and not much cement either, delivery was due in the morning. Both guys are self employed, difficult situation.
Ill be digging the water pipe in tomorrow.

Chippy is in my house today and tomorrow to do worktops, and hang doors.
Plumber in Thursday to final fix the kitchen
Sparky in Friday to final fix kitchen, and as much of garage as they can.

House is empty, none of them will be in the house at same time.
All are happy to do it.

assuming they leave their home, go straight there, work, then go straight home then is it a huge issue ? Should I be strung up ?
