In my excitement I quickly popped on a plug. It went for a second then stopped. Tried again, nothing.

Oh dear, forgot to check, its a 110v drill, or at least it used to be.

I did that with some 110 flood light bulbs, couldn't understand why they kept popping in my 240v portable light. It wasn't till I got through all three in the blister packet that I realised they were only suitable for 110v lights, Doh

Perhaps it had an overheat cut-out or similar?? Anyway, it seems to be working but not sure how long for as its smells a little suspect

And somebody said 110v hal bulbs last longer?
maybe they do if plugged in the correct voltage!!

Might have a plonker protection sensor?
or possibly 20.000 rpm sensor ??

I've managed to "plug myself into 240v" a couple of times, your right the smell wasn't great!!!

Could have been worse. Thinking it was 110v when infact it was 240v and scratching your head wondering why it wouldn't look at butter hot. Happened to me with an angle grinder, soft start my a**e.

I did the same with a Leister welder twenty years ago. I had just started a new job and the old guy did not have enough plugs for all his tools, so I put one on it.

£300 later we had another welder.

Mrs Robo asked if I had a lead for the fridge she had been given to use at the stables, I dug out the box of leads and she picked the figure of eight type.
She bought the fridge home saying when she plugged it in there was a blue flash and the MCB tripped, I looked at the data plate and it was 12V DC input

On site a lad (a nice lad, if not a little dim (pun intended)) decided to take a site light home like this one

He asked if it could be used at home and told "yeah, just change the plug and pop a lamp in mate".

Next day he came in saying he'd went through twenty lamps, but it was ok as he'd grab another twenty today. Of course, they're all 110 on site
