Trying to cut out 12mm steel with a 5 inch grinder as no room for a 9 inch, and fab 75x25x12mm spacers.
Got nearly done, put down die grinder and picked up the new metabo and it wouldn't work.
Test pen showed power going to it
F#@#ing piece of sh1#.
Went home to send nasy email And send it back, and as I was getting it ready I noticed this little gem .
I must of got it wrapped round the bar stock I was cutting.

Just put a new length of cable on.

I use the yellow which is for 110v but it’s easier to see.

The electricity doesn’t care what colour cable it lives in.

I think the proper cable is H07RN-F. For a grinder that is double insulated, you only need 2-core 15.mm^2. eBay has plenty of sellers by the metre.

Changing the cable also allows you to make it the length _you_ want not the length Metabo think you need.

Same problem yesterday. Another standard factory cable and it is always a bit short, in my opinion. It is rather soft than hard (if it is warm outside), but loves to twist into endless Mobius rings. I am in search of an eternal cable with rubber insulation.

metabo cords are a decent length, but 5m sounds good for £11

I've seen a few carpenters skill saws that have a pair of wire nut's in the cord just about 4 1/2'
from the saw....every one is the same distance....

Good excuse to cut the cable short and fit some power con/power twist connectors.

This sort of thing, I use them on most of my mains tools. (Cheaper elsewhere)

Invest in a new bit of 1.5mm cable about 4m long and replace it..... should do the job.......

I wouldnt go any bigger than 1mm for a grinder. Especially if using h07 as it is a thicker jacket. That will be more than sufficient and still be flexible. 1.5 would get annoying pretty quickly, like fighting a garden hose.

Standard flex fitted to metabo is 2 core 1mm H05 on the smaller machines and 2 core 1mm H07 on the big ones. I'd stick with that personally.

An ideal cable for an angle grinder, in my understanding.

1) Copper strands are woven like a carbon brush cable.

2) silicone insulation or rubber.

3) length 4 meters

4) the place of cable entry into the housing is reinforced with a flexible spring, with a dense coil, instead of a cheap rubber sleeve.

5) The electric plug is extended for easy gripping with gloved fingers, and can be disassembled.
