Do you remeber me?? the man with the Dutch barge.
Well one month on I have replated one side of the barge cabin windows. Thanks for the tips on getting the plates into place.
Overall the results are good, but I had a hairline crack about 4 " on one weld after i ground it flush (bad penetration???)
The old steel is rusty and painted and I have found how frustrating it can be to splutter away on old steel.. any tips how to overcome such dodgy areas?? even after cutting and grinding?
Also is it neccesary for me to weld both sides of the new plates?? as it is taking forever. I thought I could run some large tacks inside then weld the exterior side full length then grind flush? and finally... what is the best good quality metal filler available ( no questions why please!!)
