its a complete **** take i know someone whos been on the 4 week wonder course , he was working for a drainage contractor digging holes . hese now advertising domestic comercial and industrial wiring . i wouldnt let him loose on 12 volt wiring in a shi.. t house . or i wouldnt even let a 1 year apprentice loose on his own without supervision . its patheticDon't know how many saw the item on BBC about electricians - linky
One of the guys from an electricians forum I'm on was involved at the committee stage
It doesn't matter how many bits of paper you have, it's experience that counts.
Very true, I was lucky enough to have served a proper apprenticeship trained by 3 blokes who also served proper apprenticeships.
A lot of the job adverts I see feature "must be apprentice trained"
JLR are the same, "must have certificate of craftsmanship", when I went for the initial interview we started with a paperwork check, after 30 mins 3 of the 14 candidates were on their way home due to not having one.
Bloke I work with was offered a job at JLR last week, apparently they are taking on loads of engineers
well they have got the certificates and wired a ringmain a few lighting circuits and a db on a board in the training center wot more do u needIt's a joke I spent 6 years training and at collage plus many other cources to gain the privalage of calling myself a competent person, how can someone spend a coupple of weeks at a "collage" and call themselves an electrician, wouldn't let them change a light bulb
thats pi..ss easy they dont do the plastering me and my m8 used to do full rewires with the plastering in under 2 days and not trash the houseI don't know about else ware but round the north east there is lots of jobs advertised, requiring electricians for 1 day rewires. How on earth can 2-3 people rewire a full house properly in 1 day, FFS it takes at least 1/2 a day to test it off properly!
