Think he means does it still do it going forward. Stopping. Then going forward again. Rather than alternating.

Yes, reading back I didn’t explain brilliantly but if you start for example several times always in the same direction does it still do it, or does it do it only if you start in one direction followed by a start in the other direction.

With the Dewhurst live and I switch it to forward or reverse and allow it to stop then start again the same way it still does it.

Ah ok - I wonder if as @Seadog said above the Dewhurst switch is not rated for switching loads, ie it should be switched off via a contractor or AN other switch, the Dewhurst only being used to reverse the direction?

I have the user leaflet/diagrams for this switch, doesn't say anything about switching off supply before selecting, the click is coming from the motor.

Yeah I don’t know just going by what was said above - might be the case if it’s not meant to be switching on load, but I don’t have any experience of these switches personally.

They are designed to switch load. Mine has been on my Myford doing so for 39 years.
I wouldn't use it on anything over 1 hp though as the contacts on mine are a bit eroded now.
Cant complain though!

No. I would check all the cams are in line. I wonder if one is either not connecting or disconnecting at the same time as the others.
I suspect the start winding connection isn't coming in at the same time as the run.
