hey i have a superwinch husky i have just serviced, they are a tool! a bit slow but man they have torque, I was thinking about selling it TBH. I have a 9000 warn with a bow 2 on it for the rear on mine the build for that started today funnily enough.

Keep me in the loop on that. Love the husky, absolutely bomb proof. As you say, they’re slow but they pull

Anyone know what the Rhino winches are like? Nosing on Ebay and see the prices range.

I have been out of the winches game for a long time, but this looks to be a Chinese clone, some are ok for along as you can get parts. Always pay on a credit card the you can take it up with them if it fails. ( Taiwanese are usually better made than chinese)
When I started out properly in winches I had an agency for one of the manufacturers, my sales where decimated over night as you could buy the same winch for half the price on Ebay, well it looked the same, I was inundated with repairs from people who had bought Ebay winches that either didn't work out of the box or only lasted a short time, they looked the same but clearly weren't, the porosity in the castings was shocking and I saw lots of failures, I refused to repair them as they had no parts back up and many where just dangerous.
The original purchaser would then find the seller had shut up shop, it was a lot harder back then to get a refund so people would open an Ebay shop, sell 100 of X product that looked good but wasn't then shut.
One of our suppliers had 100 in the back and not a good one amongst them!
Come up are a cheap winch I would fit as they have a good UK agent so parts are not an issue and over the years any potential issues we fed back where dealt with quickly and resolved / redesigned.
The Huskey mentioned further up the thread is a very good winch, remember its difficult to have loads of torque and high speed together.
I mainly repaired Warn 8274's as that was one of the better winches at the time, but they are very basic but thay are fast with reasonable torque, it depends on what you want.
Remember most electric winches have a short duty cycle some as low as 5 minutes use per hour.
Hydraulic is excellent but a lot more work to fit correctly, power steering pumps will work but you don't have the flow rate, cooling capacity etc a proper system would provide.
If you do get one remember to wind it in and out each month keep it well lubed and dry if you can. You may find a Tirfor is of more use

Back in the 1980s a couple of chaps entered 2 brand new unregistered soft top Suzukis, in AWDC trials.

One had a turbo but otherwise they were bog standard.

They ran rings round the LRs and Jeeps they were so light and nimble and never seemed to run out of revs.

Both of them lasted for many years and the owners reckoned they were by far the cheapest way to be competitive cos nothing ever broke!

Kept up with some seriously lifted stuff, green laning as well as pay and play. ****** off a defender owner who had a huge lift and ridiculous tyres, everything he went through or up so did I, I also had a much more comfortable (relatively speaking) drive home

whilst I have a defender it’s only to make a profit from, a disco is infinitely more comfy and equally as capable off road

as for winches a chap in our off road club had a Ramsey hydraulic winch and hydro locked his engine whilst going through one of waddons deep pits we had to jet was him after as he was covered head to toe in mud trying to get 2 other winch hooks attached to his bumper
