On the subject of non payers

As the title suggests from reading the earlier post I have a similar problem with non payment, but i havent really done anything about it as it was from about 3.-4 years ago and being a wee nipper i didn't know any better, and after reading that post it got me wondering could I do anything ie court wise as it has been such a long time.

or just wait for the day of cold revenge that I promise will happen

You have to weigh up what it will cost you to take people to county court and what are the chances of them paying .

I spent over £1,500 chasing a £ 7.5 K deposit that ran away from me .

In the end I quit .£ 600 plus vat for technical survey ( in my favour ) . a county court judgment was made in my favour , all three defendants traced £330 plus vat ,a reliable person delivered the verdicts of pay up ( bailiff served ) another £200 ish each ..

The defendants had no known asset's.. BStds lived in rented , hired flash cars , hired the TV .. HP on the sofa , washing machine , no loose carpets .
All were self employed , with the tool of their trade ...a laptop that was untouchable and with no bank accounts in their names.

I gave all this info to a wise friend who had far more experience of such things than I .
Thankfully they told me that a Judge would say I was being unreasonable to expect to regain my deposit under these circumstances and I would have to pay the defendants costs & court costs If I took them back to the county court for non payment .

So just do as many inquiries as you can yourself without a solicitor being involved .

Check to see if the person is on the voting list .. tends to be an indicator of a responsible person , check the address with the land registry office on line for about a fiver.

You never know if you google search such things you may now find that there is a lot more free advice about the whole matter on line and much more up to date..

Depending on the amount involved, there's also the small claims court

There is a cut off point, after x time you can't claim from memory. I'm not sure what that time scale is off the top of my head. I do have a feeling you would be out of that time scale by now. It's worth a check, take a read on the net or phone your local courts, they will be able to answer for you.

send some heavies round they'll soon pay up!
an old buddy that I use to work with said that one of the double glaze company didn't pay the self employed contractor for installing all windows/doors. because the customer had no money
and he was a solicitor/ to cut the story short the company told him if he can get the money off the customer he can keep it all.
this guy happen to know some rift raff guys(criminals).
he told them if they can get the money off this solicitor they can keep half.
they went to his house and started to take the front window out.
the owner dash out etc etc... they told him pay up or all the windows etc will be taken . now these guys didn't mess about when he threatened them with the police...just barged in tied his family up and threatened him ... needles to say he coughed up...theres more to it than this but if I wrote it it'll turn out to be a book....
