Approx 18 hours without internet.....but not just fast internet to download.
Total blackout Inc phone services.

Fortunately I have a Vodafone account as well but it did highlight how poor the internet/phone/text services are in places round the country.

According to EE it was 3 masts being taken out by Rodents chewing at the same time (I am inclined to believe BJ more than that) but if it is true.
Not only do we seem to have "super rats" communicating about attacking the only phone system that works in the area.
Ok so Vodafone had a very very flaxy voice service but even that kept dropping carrier during calls and was not good enough to allow me to get EE's phone number to report a fault.
It was not even good enough to send or receive text messages.

I actually was fully prepared for my EE phone to break or even the SIM to go faulty but not 3 masts at the same time.

Does anyone know what I could use as backup because even data roaming would not suitable even if it was available.

I could see Vodafone and O2 networks but neither sustained a data connection.

Unless that’s Virgin I don’t see why. BT are delivering FTTP by replacing the drop cable from the pole to the house. Quite clever really, still 4 core cable but has a fibre up the middle.

That was not the point mate.
I actually managed to get a few jobs done in the caravan.
But ....almost everything I wanted to do involved the internet.
Even simple things like Currys the recipes I was following and purchased all the herbs for I could not access
Could not order 3 things I needed to get for van or research how to insulate the door etc
I had planned to update my website (if it was wet) but need online access to do that.

Guess I need to install a server to the laptop to be able to alter it offline)

Plan for the 4 days were were here was to lay 12 slabs to create a safe access for my wife's electric scooter if it was dry.
Guess what it's poured down for 3 days lol...

At home I am fine. If virgin goes down. Which is actually rare in our area) I can at least use my unlimited Vodafone data. But last evening/this morning was a spooky experience.

Oh the other issue was my wife uses a Firestick to get all her Freeview channels.
We do have TV supplied to every van on site but it aerial based coax distributed by the site. And guess what...it's has only 21 channels Inc radio.

I use the fire stick as I don't use all the data on EE in the month and it's only 20 quid.

I am planning to request the site switch to a free satellite feed as it's already wired to take it round the site.....I spoke to the guy who maintains it. Neither of us know what they don't feed Freesat instead of Freeview from a transmitter.
OR why that transmitter only has 21 channels. When all those around us have a full compliment via Freeview.

id becareful with that otherwise you could end up with a maintenence charge

it might not recieve it as they dont want to get charged as much as you wont like getting charged to be distributed with it

the reason why saterlite used to use the distribution model and charge each customer whilst the place got free equipment to recieve it

Round our way they didn't dig up the road, they just scuffed up a trough in the ditch, dropped in the fibre and kicked the mud back over. The fibre across my grass was down three inches. Foot on spade, give it a wiggle, poke cable in gap.
Nevertheless, it has only broken down once in three years.

I also had Vonage installed, voice over internet phone calls. Moved my number over. No more BT

When the internet goes down it is terrible, I have to talk to SWMBO, or rather, listen.

the caravan (where we live in summer) is Satelite and 5g....unlimited.....

Talktalk fibre here and just checked on Ookla 55.7mbps down and 13.9mbps up 15ms ping. Not looked for ages but it seems faster than it was

It would be like trying to pick up a signal in a Faraday cage plus Freeview needs a a line of sight to the transmitter so usually some height is required.

Or it could be an area where the BT cabling is all underground.

In which case the ducts would already be there to service the existing phone etc. No need to dig up again.
