Old welding set

Have one of these, destined for scrap. Just wondering how they worked and if anyone knows any details about them.

If the ark had been made of metal Noah would have used one of those to build it It's probably nearly 100 years old. Quasi arc made engine driven welders and that one looks like it is driven by an electric motor instead of a petrol or diesel engine. Strange idea but it was probably cutting edge technology in the day I bet it doesn't half make the meter fly round.

ive got one of them sort,only thing the welder bit don't work,the engine is an early four cylinder ford motor.

Once the ends are removed from the motor, should the armature just come out? Not shifting much with a sledge.

The bearings are off, I can move the armature up and down a little. Would there be something inside that is holding it?

I split the motor casing and it came out then, damn heavy thing!
