Ok experts...help.
I'll try to attach a before photo, this trailer is 6' x 12' w/ old 6k mobile home axle. I have changed over to modern hubs, new jack stand, new coupler, and am still working on a few things here and there. The trailer was free from my Uncle. I want 5' x 12' for final size. I flipped the axle so the leaf springs are on bottom, the axle will have to be cut and rewelded once frame is cut down.
Don't make too much fun of my welds, they are done w/ an 80 amp handymig SIP. I know some are not pretty, but I'm getting better.
Questions:
1. What's the best way/place to cut down the frame? Center or edge?
2. I need more clearance on the tires, can I leave the axle an extra 1/2" longer on each side?
3. Does the axle need to have a slight bow back and up for proper camber?
4. Do my welds seem to be burning in well enough?
5. What can I do about the front end underside of the coupler? Weld a plate for more support?
6. Any other suggestions would be great.
I know I need a better welder, but this is all I've got for now. I'm going to rent a cutting torch for a day when I get ready to cut the sides down. I've used an angle grinder and about 30 cutting discs thus far! Not fun!
Oh, I have about $250 in the trailer right now, welding shop wants near $600 to do the rest of the work, no sense if I can do it myself w/ your help.
First couple pics are close up of welds...keep looking
