Sorry, A bit of black humour there. Two guys i knew died of asbestos in the last year. There is still a lot of the stuff still out there.

Early 60s, I remember my dad using a tin of blue fibrous stuff that he spat in, ......wonder what it was?

It was blue asbestos, i used to mix it for my dad. Dont think you can get it any more.....

Yes Keith that's just what it was, I was being a little silly when I wrote the last bit

cough cough i hardly think so take that on a side and they would cordon it off . send a team in to clean it up with a hoover and do an air test afterwards they done it to me one day in a school . just because i took a tile down inan electric cupboard that had been taken down umpteen times before then they left the tile and told the caretaker to put in in a plastic sack they left WHATS THAT ALL ABOUT

We were innocents those days, the dangers where kept from us, the effects where an official secret since all the mine workers started dying in the 1930s, because the ships, subs, and almost everything else the military needed depended on the stuff to work!

biggest asbestos problem is within Social Work and Teaching "white collar" workers, Unions doing their utmost to raise awareness of the dangers of working in crumbling 60s buildings.
Im amazed at how few of the young uns on site are totally unaware of the possible hazards of legacy materials - found a plumbers mate using a hole saw on a cementicious fiberboard of dubious appearance the other week

got a tin of fibre raw plugs somewhere the little "Dookin' Iron" was a useful tool

some of the modern plastic plugs are useless.
