old tig welder torch

hi there all a new member her just wondering have any one of you come across a old tig welder called a regis 250 argon arc because i cannot find any information on it also the tig torch has a thick copper cable running through the center of it and i wanted to know if i can replace it with a new style wp17 torch any help appreciated thanks

Might be best to post a photo if its that rare,
if you show the torch connection area on the machine i'm sure you'll get advise on a suitable torch.

What is the connection at the machine?

Looks like it may a version of a wp17?, there should be a plastic handle covering the copper part.

I can't imagine that insulating tape will hold up against 100+ amps.

Assuming that's a 3/8" BSP, a new CK torch will fit that. I'm sure there's other brands that produce torches with a 3/8" BSP fitting too.

That looks like a standard 3/8" bsp fitting where it connects to the machine,
assuming you're using foot pedal you can simply connect any torch that has that fitting,
whats the max amps that machine goes to? the wp17 is only rated at 150amps.

yes there is a plastic sleeve ive just moved it down the hose to show the brass fitting am i right in thinking that the new tig torch hoses carry the negative torch return currant back through the argon gas as a conductor or is there a cable weved in to the hose ?... thank you john .

There's a woven cable in the torch cable.

As MrFuzzy said it's still a 2 lead process, the torch supplies the arc and the separate welding return completes the circuit, so you need a earth clamp and cable.
