The Transit starter motor is literally half the size and weight as the one on the Convoy - that might have something to do with it you think?

I checked voltage with a multimeter - battery was fine.
Checked for the permanent 12v onto the starter - same, no losses between battery connections and the starter.
Put 12v through a Power Probe onto the "tickle wire" on the starter solenoid - nothing.
Starter motor snuffed it.
One of the lads came out with a new starter - fitted and back in business.

Iveco hasn't missed a beat either.
The Duratorques seem to be very good and no real bother, do decent mileage - but when they let go, they seem to do do without warning, and in a big and terminal fashion

At 07:20 I was showing -10C.
This starter is at the front on the transverse FWD motor (I'm told the RWD ones are a 'mare to get at without a Ramp)..... but its low down so can only get accessed from beneath - & the van is pretty low to the ground - so not a fun job - and you need a trolley jack and an axle stand to get enough room to get the sod off.
Not fun at several degrees below zero

Ran it till 2017. Replaced the dual mass. (Original and gave up. Clutch plates were still good though.)
And rear bearings. (Garage didn't believe me when I told them the bearings were going. But apparently I was very lucky they were done when they did or they would have taken the diff with them. )
Other than that. just wear parts.
I'd have fixed it if it wasn't rotten.
180000 on the clock when I scrapped it.
Never did get around the getting the timing chain done.
I like the Iveco Daily. I see it as a more modern LDV Convoy with similar quirks.
Like the Convoy, the Daily suffers from a cheap and plasticky interior, naff switchgear and iffy door handles - niggles that put people off them, but nothing serious.
They also share a susceptibility to the Tin Weevil, and the Daily's rear brakes can be troublesome - but generally all the main bits of it keep on truckin'.
When the inevitable day comes when I can't keep the Convoy on the road any more - I'd seriously look for a solid, older Iveco Daily as its natural successor
My 09 transit has really not liked starting all week so has been parked on the hill part of the lane for the inevitable bump start..then the handbrake froze solid Sonora now parked on the hill...in gear with a brick in front of the tire.

No issue with rust. Bloody clean Really for a 13 plate. Last of the MK4. Once I sorted out the previous owners bodges.
MK3 injectors in a MK4. Blew the edge cooler and caused a lot of other issues. Made a cheap van an expensive van so I need to get my money out of it.
Every MOT I have handbrake/rear brake issues.
Electricals are their killer from what I've heard.

26 year old Toyota Surf 151K it's been under snow on a trickle charger for the last week or more but it'll start no problem. It did have a new set of starter motor brushes and slip rings a few years back though. It has the winter pack option so has twin batteries and a few others bits.
