Old Ryobi battery

I have an old Ryobi battery and charger that starts petrol strimmer but the 1200 mh12v ni cad is dead, looking around they are not easy to get or are mega bucks, converting it to ni mh seems the cheapest way but then i have charger issues, any ideas?

Open it up and replace the cells for rc car ones.

The charging strategy is the same for NiCd and NiMH so swapping out the cells for NiMH is not a problem I've done it loads of times.

If I remember they even have a cell replacement service send in your battery and get it back with new cells of your choice.

I've a 12V Ryobi drill and charger here. Got a couple of aftermarket batteries. They weren't up to much but if any good you're welcome to them.

Any use? Looks different to me. I just braved the loft butt naked! The only thing is posting....pretty sure you can't post batteries anyway?

Thanks for the offer but those are the type off batteries i have in my spares box, they are not the same fit, also wear clothes when going up your loft incase you fall and they find you naked, it would be hard to explain.

The charging strategy is the same for NiCd and NiMH so swapping out the cells for NiMH is not a problem I've done it loads of times.

It depends on the charger, some NiCd chargers cannot sense the smaller DV of the NIMH cells so will not cut off when full charge is reached and will overheat the cells. I really would advise against using a NiCD charger to charge a NIMH, you can pick up a dual charger that charges both on ebay.

I have successfully re-packed a Bosch 9.6V Ni-cad battery. Tabbed cells etc.

Tried doing it with a DeWalt 18V Ni-MH battery. Fail.

it was much more expensive to replace the cells .

There are plenty of 12v ni cad packs available if you dont mind butchering the case.

Got any other 12V kit, could perhaps 3D print you a battery adapter...
