old mig repair help needed

hi guys
im just been given a single phase mig welder of a friend whos shutting shop,. the make is tec sys omni mig250 amp .
The machine looks an old thing and need some tlc.(il try get some pictures up)
i was told the machine worked a few years ago ,i switched it on and as i was expecting when pressed the triger nothing happened. the machine power light comes on,the cooling fan works and thats it as far as i can see, what would be the first call of action to find fault.
any help appreciated .

I'd check the trigger wiring. Does it have a Euro-Torch? If so disconnect it and short the two small pins in the socket and see what happens, disengage the wire feed first.

What should happen is the contractor should produce a loud click!

With a 250 amp welder I'd expect a clonk!!

il bring the camera from the work shop tomorrow and put some pics up.il bring the multi meter home as well .

got the machine working guys .the contacts on the power contractor was realy dirty and covered in crap.i cleaned these up and bingo works like a dream.mike you comment CLONK lead me streight to the problem ,cheers guys
