We have a Chef that is used 3 or 4 times a week which was bought for £20 on eBay local pick up only to replace one which broke. It was our third one and I found a repair for the motor and speed controller which was what went on the other two so I repaired them. The replacement then failed so I started using one of the others and have now repaired the spare. These machines are so good, I found one in a skip and only had to replace the power cord to get it working. You can now buy a replacement motor for about £80 with the speed controller included and that sounds like my next move when one breaks.

I try to fix most things, great satisfaction to be had from repairing something, even put a new screen on my smar phone, won't do another but it did work after and not too many bits left over, tv ariel splitter in the loft died, ran the wires from the power supply out of the case and used an external transformer plug, my Sykes brake pipe flare tool was thrown out by the workshop foreman when I was a 16 year old apprentice, my dad made a new nut, well I suspect Fullers transformers in Fulborne rd. made a new nut, I have made one more myself, I have been using that tool for 51 years, most of the time professionally, used it on my Jag rebuild, will be using it tomorrow.................

I enjoy watching "Money for Nothing" on telly where that that fit wench (bit too skinny and not desperately attractive, but any port in a storm 
) visits the tip and makes stuff good again.
Some of the ideas that they come up with for repurposing old junk are fabulous and the guy near Edinburgh who does the metalwork is excellent, even if he is more than a bit camp

You're lucky. My local recycling centre won't let you have anything. They even stop you taking stuff that people still have in their boot.

We have some attachments for the Kenwood Chefs, Juicer, slicer/grater, pasta maker and mincer etc but the main use is bread making. Every couple of weeks I make pasta with it to go with the batch cook Bolognese. This one came out of a skip and we still have the other two all in working order now thanks to the repair kits for sale on amazon or ebay,

Same here. At mine they have a dedicated little area where they salvage anything decent, complete with workbench and vice. If you go down there with any cable they direct you to "stick it over there". Goes round the back and gets stripped for copper. Same with any copper pipe.
Straight in their back pocket I imagine.

I like Bang & Olufsen hifi's and picked up a crate of about 15 faulty B&O table radios from the 70s/80s from a restorer who was retiring. A few had bits missing, a few had bits not working, but on 99% of them the main problem was a bit of fine cord that connects the tuning knob on the side to the mechanism inside had snapped. Each one takes about 15 minutes to strip it down + 30 minutes to set & adjust the new cord. So simple to fix & quite relaxing, but thousands / millions of these have been put in the skip when the cord snapped. 
I've lost count of how many other gadgets I've "fixed" over the year just by fitting a new fuse.
Our local tip / recycling place is a nightmare, the number of good pushbikes in their skip is criminal. I ride older bikes so often end up paying over the odd for mail-order parts to keep them going, so annoying when I can see bits I am looking for in the skip, and know some newer bikes might be cherry-picked out for restoation and the rest will be melted down
I turned up at one tip with a trailer that had my old motorbike & some junk in it, it's the first time the staff came over - they kindly offered to lift out my "old scrap bike so I didn't hurt myself"
