I had an MGA at the time, I can’t recall how many tickets I got, not maximum I think, but someone I knew had a Westminster & he chopped the tax in a day or so before it all blew up. He rang DVLC & told them he had made a mistake & could he have his tax back please. He didn’t tell them he just wanted the ration. I can’t remember whether they returned it or not now.

My grandfather, born in 1910 never had to actually take a driving test of any description, in those days you could just apply for and be granted a licence

I had an uncle like that, he was a liability on the road.

Old paperwork with old houses is very common, we were given a bundle with our place. The oldest been 1732 when it was sold to a Walter Scott of Hawick for his son, consisting of 2 houses, 6 cottages, a mill and 350 acres.

No a poor farmer. As it was only a house and derelict ct barns when I bought it, with far far less land too

Oh I don’t know, there’s a fair few on here up in the northern parts with old properties…..

I believe all the green goddesses were sold off? Some were used here in Northern Ireland during a firefighters strike in the early 2000's but painted yellow - in order to look 'less military', not a great success it has to be said. My brother's boss owns one, I've been in it, fabulous old thing with only something like 5000 miles on the clock. Loaded with a few thousand litres of water I wouldn't fancy driving it anywhere in an emergency on its old bar grip tyres!

I can't go back that far, I'm just sorting through the paperwork from my moms estate and have collected all the paperwork for the house. Oldest one is for the purchase of the land in 1905, noted as "22 yards and 3 inches or thereabouts and containing in the whole 872 square yards or thereabouts"

They paid £450 in 1905 but looking at later paperwork they built 5 houses on it.
