What am I to do with my old gas bottles ?

I have 2 one is a little 10l other is a huge 5ft one both have been paid for (no rent on them) so they are mine.

so do other gas suppliers buy bottles ?

Dont think any other dealers will buy them from you would have to sell privately ...
What gasses were in them,?
why not get them filled and use them again yourself,,,

1st are they still in test date.
2nd if they are offer for sale on fourm
3rd offer on e Bay...
BUT sure someonee will come along and say different,,,

make sur the gas is out of them first though

yeah both argon mixed 5%

I would get them filled but I have no idea where to do this as they are not company marked and yes should all be in date as the small one I got about 2 months ago and the big one is 2 years old

Hi,

All cylinders should have a date stamp , the company name and the test pressures . Can't you go back to where they came from ?

One bottle was got from a guy off here, he does not want the bottles back, other bottle was from an old gas company which has shut down now.

check the suppiers list, then consider Diving shops and fire extiguisher service people, some one will fill em. as long as they are tested. if not some will even test them and stamp them--every 10 Yr I think

If they're argon mix cylinders and are marked or colour-coded as such then they can only be filled with argon mix.
Fire extinguisher places would most likely only deal with CO2 and diving shops would most likely only deal in breathable gases.
Filling a cylinder with anything other than it's intended content would be plainly stupid.

Our local Fire ext shop fills hundreds of diving bottles, very popular area for divers, will also fill Argon, and a mix if you can tell him the %. + C02, not sure if he does any others??
Also does the tests.
I wouldnt even ask him to put any gas in any bottle, Nor would I expect any other supplier to do anything similar..

I wasn't shooting you down in flames by the way, it's just that in the past we've had some idiotic suggestions on what is and isn't acceptable regarding cylinders, contents, decanting etc. and I didn't want anyone getting any silly ideas.
I don't imagine many reputable gas suppliers would even entertain anything remotely iffy but I'll bet there's some 'back street Joes' who would.

No offence taken at all. I would hate to think of the repercussions of a diaster envolving a marked cylinder with different contents, our supplier is on the "gas" Database--Cormeaton Eng. Nice people to deal with.

Ive an old airproducts bottle Y size ..When I went to exchange it years ago the firm had shut down overnight ..Think it still has a bit left in it ,just checked got 500PSI on the gauge ..Looked and the only date stamp on it is 5/10..weldap8 ..No idea what to do with it ..

airproducts are still tradeing it will just be the depot you used that has shut. Y size is BOC is it not?

just used that size as a comparision.. its a blue bottle with a black top ..I moved and didnt do any welding for about five years so never bothered with it ..Probably just use whats left and scrap the bottle

if your not paying rental on it! by rights it should go back to airproducts as they own the bottle
