Old bike identification, not an easy one.

No prizes, but the engine does not belong to the frame.

?Any ideas on both? I suppose the frame/rolling chassis is quite easy, for those who know.

I thought Ariel, but could not find a matching oil tank.

Engine looks like a Kettle bottom end with air cooled barrels, frame Excelsior.

I had to rethink mine because it's air cooled but the bottom end definitely looks like Kettle.

It seems to have a seperate gearbox, or at least the kickstart looks a long way back.

The barrels are vertical, so not KH/H.

Bottom end looks Suzuki but 750 would be water cooled and the 380/550 had "ram air" squared heads

That emc frame looks far too spindly and weak to take anything with much power. I have heard of people chopping gearboxes off unit engines before to get them into a frame. Triumph tridents (the meriden ones) for instance.

There was an old boy in one of the classic bike magazines who was building specials based on the ariel arrow/leader. He used to add varying amounts of cylinders. Maybe adding one, or joining two engines together.
