Old AV surround sound equipment.

I went to top up the central heating pressure in the tank room eaves earlier and found a load of old Yamaha 7.1 surround sound gear I've not used since moving house.
Is this worth anything now?
Amp and 6 speakers.
I've not wired the lounge with speaker cable so will probably get one of those blue tooth things.

I think most people just have a soundbar under the telly these days. You could just setup the front 3 speakers and the bass box.

Look on ebay. I can't make out your exact model, but could fetch £80-£100.

Only if they are satisfied with "it makes a boom boom noise" so it must be good.

I have to keep moving things from in front of the speakers here, because 'er indoors is of that mindset.

I wonder if Streamed video has full surround encoded in the audio? That might be the reason.....

I had a Google looking for some kind of Bluetooth adapter but it seems you can't have 5.1 or 7.1 audio over Bluetooth

My tv is wired to my amp and the two 3ft high Jamo speakers that sit in the corners of the room I ran the cables under the carpet when we laid that. The 12" subs are fine for base.

I'm not sure exactly what you're hoping to do with bluetooth but I wouldn't expect anything to exist.

No reason in principle why you couldn't transmit more than two channels over bluetooth, but keeping several receivers perfectly in sync would be a challenge. You'd need to run power to each speaker too, so it's not wireless anyway. Sonos do surround over WiFi but that's all new kit, not a retrofit to an existing AV receiver and speakers.

You really can't beat good old copper cables.

id rather have the surround sound plugged in instead of paying for a sound bar

whilst i use the computer surround sound myself and watch the film or whatever im playing it dosnt go through the tv and if it does it tends to get shut off and i use the pc surround sound instead

as my tv is older to a degree so ive got good sound with the tv compared to these new lcd screens with sound that sounds so rubbish you have to buy a sound bar

its just another cost to buying a tv we consumers are dumb enough to pay for when it should come with it when you buy a new tv

In fairness once we finish a million other projects and resume work on the sitting room I could run speaker cables under the floor as we've got access underneath relatively easily.

i have the 5.1 version of that. hdmi passthrough is the mutts nuts. simplifies all your wiring dramatically and there are no signal conversations to mess you around. id love another one but they are getting hard to find.... and i have no money... which might be a more relevant problem...
